In May of 2016 the Mayor’s Office, along with its partners, announced the community’s new image campaign: Unlike Anywhere Else. On Purpose. Also known as the "UN Campaign."
While developing the UN Campaign it became apparent that Council Bluffs residents wanted more opportunities to celebrate and connect with their neighbors, and so evolved 100 Block Parties. The team behind the UN Campaign created a challenge for the people of Council Bluffs to host 100 Block Parties in one year. Mayor Walsh kicked off this one-year project in September of 2016. As of May 2017 the community has hosted more than 60 block parties with nearly 7,000 people in attendance! Several block parties are scheduled for the coming months, some private parties while others are open to the public.
Mayor Walsh said almost any event could be considered a block party. "Of course we want you to think of your next-door neighbors," he said. "But block parties can, and should, extend to your neighbors at work, school and other community organizations."
We still need parties so we can reach the goal of 100! For more details, and to register a party visit: www.100blockparties.com. Plans are in the works for the 100th block party to be a community-wide, all-ages party on the 100 Block in September 2017. Stay tuned for more information.
