On Monday, March 13 City Council voted to remove the medians from the West Broadway Reconstruction master plan. The medians were included in the master plan with only the best of intentions; to improve safety, beautify the area, and give Council Bluffs an entrance that residents and business owners would be proud of. While the medians were designed to have this positive impact on the West Broadway corridor, it became apparent that many residents appreciate the corridor-long center turning lane, and feared that a change to it would have an overall negative impact. These voices were heard and fears have been put at ease. Medians will be removed from the master plan.
The plan for aesthetics will also change no longer having the opportunity to landscape the medians. News items will be posted to the City’s website to communicate these changes as they are made. Check back soon.
Both sides of the median conversation became very passionate. Now that the vote is in, we reunite as a stronger community and take pride in the progress Council Bluffs is making.
