Thanks to a generous donation from Pro Iowa and their partners, a mini-pitch is coming to Roberts Park in Council Bluffs.
Pro Iowa, the campaign that looks to bring professional soccer to Iowa, is expanding the world’s game through a unique partnership with Musco Lighting and Kick it Forward to donate ten uniquely designed futsal-sized pitches to communities across the state, a $1 million project in total. “We are honored and excited that Pro Iowa selected Council Bluffs as one of the 10 locations for a mini-pitch in Iowa,” said Kelsey Bocken, Recreation and Events Manager for the City of Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation Department.
Musco’s Mini-Pitch System™ Modular Sports Solutions offer communities an ideal opportunity to rejuvenate abandoned courts and areas with limited space, creating a fun and active place that celebrates the spirit of teamwork, empowerment, and fitness around the game of soccer. Futsal is a fast-paced, scaled-down soccer game played on a hard surface with dimensions similar to a basketball court. Games consist of four field players plus a goalkeeper. Musco Lighting leads the installation of the project at Roberts Park.
The mini-pitch at Roberts Park replaces one of the tennis courts and features lighting, fencing, goals, and benches. The installation begins on September 28 and will be complete within one week. Once finished, the mini-pitch at Roberts Park will be available for public use. Those interested in using the mini-pitch should call Council Bluffs Parks and Recreation (712-890-5291) to check availability.
