In accordance with the tradition of the American Public Works Association, those who work in professions that provide and maintain public facilities and services will be honored during National Public Works Week, May 21-25. This week, the City of Council Bluffs will celebrate the contributions of our public works professionals.
On Thursday, May 24 at 8:15 a.m. Council Bluffs Public Works employees will gather at Public Works Operations (1001 10th Avenue) for a proclamation presented by Mayor Walsh.
“We value our communities and the role public works professionals play in keeping them safe and functioning smoothly,” reports the American Public Works Association, sponsor of National Public Works Week. “Our objective is designed to increase public awareness of their contributions as well as to enlighten the public about the duties, practices, and goals of public works professionals.”
Public works professionals include those who manage water, sewer, public transportation, and refuse removal systems as well as those responsible for maintaining public buildings and grounds. They are, in short, the people who maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety and comfort.
“On behalf of the City of Council Bluffs, I would like to thank our public works professionals for their dedication and commitment to our community,” said Mayor Matt Walsh.
We will be using Public Works Week as a platform to recognize the operations of public works and to highlight some of the most recent public works projects. Find updates on Facebook @CityofCB, Instagram @CityofCouncilBluffs, and Twitter @CityofCB.
