As part of the West Broadway Reconstruction Project, the City of Council Bluffs is permanently converting Avenue A to a two-way street, from 16th Street to 35th Street. The conversion will occur approximately mid-March and will provide enhanced business access during construction. Avenue A west of 35th Street will remain a one-way street.
“Converting Avenue A to a two-way street will enhance the safety of drivers and pedestrians, and provide improved access to the neighborhood and the West Broadway corridor,” said Mayor Matt Walsh.
The conversion will include new street signs, stop signs, and restriping of the roadway. The exact date of conversion is unknown due to the weather-dependent nature of construction work. Variable message signs will post the exact date approximately one week prior to conversion. This information will also be available on the project website, sent through project emails, and posted on social media.
Parking will continue to be allowed on both sides of Avenue A. As soon as possible after conversion, all vehicles parked on the south side should be reoriented to face east. All parking on the north side of Avenue A will continue to face west.
The West Broadway Reconstruction Project will preserve and enhance the economic vitality of Council Bluffs by transforming West Broadway into a more viable and aesthetically pleasing transportation corridor for businesses, residents, and the traveling public.
