On Saturday, September 30 the City of Council Bluffs hosted the 2nd Annual Employee Picnic.
This year several employees were recognized at the picnic by way of a new employee recognition program. The awards are called PROPs, which stands for Peers Recognizing Other Peers, and the program allows coworkers to recognize each other. There are four PROPs categories; Teamwork, Leadership, Customer Service, and Commitment. City employees nominated their coworkers for one of the categories and included a narrative explaining how the employee demonstrates excellence in that specific category.
36 Nominations were submitted; some people were nominated more than once by different people! All nominees were notified before the picnic. Certificates and a copy of the nomination form were presented to each nominee at the picnic, and award recipients were announced.
In order to select an award recipient for each category, a group of 25 city employees read and ranked each nomination. The ranking system led to a score, and the nomination with the highest score in each category received the award.
“The greatest thing about this employee recognition system is that it comes from the employees. It is not a top-down selection process, it is more of a people’s choice award. All nominees and recipients should be very proud. And, thanks to everyone who helped get the PROPs Awards started.” Mayor Matt Walsh said.
