Household Hazardous Materials

household hazardous wasteThe Regional Collection Center for Household Hazardous Materials, located at the Recycling Center, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second Saturday of each month. Additional hours are available by appointment only.

Household Hazardous Materials collection is free for all residents in Pottawattamie and Page counties. Two satellite facilities are available for your disposal convenience.

Items Accepted at the Council Bluffs Facility

  • Cleaning Products: bleach, drain cleaners, floor polish, furniture polish, oven cleaners, rug and upholstery cleaners, rust removers, spot removers
  • Fluorescent Light Tubes and Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • Automotive Products: antifreeze, brake fluid, cleaners, degreasers, fuels, motor oil, oil filters, waxes, windshield washer fluid
  • Cooking Oil (though not hazardous, this can be re-used)
  • Household Pesticides (weed killers, bug killers, fungicides)
  • Paint: latex and oil, spray paint, stains
  • Rechargeable batteries of all types
The following tips will make your visit to the Regional Collection Center more enjoyable:
  • Leave materials in their original containers.
  • Be prepared to show your driver's license.
  • Be prepared to complete a short questionnaire concerning the products you are bringing to the Collection Center.
  • Any unlabeled items will be accepted but an additional questionnaire may be required.
