Lead Hazard Reduction Program

Lead poisoning is a devastating condition for children and can affect nearly every system in the body, and it’s preventable.

The City of Council Bluffs has been awarded a grant to remove lead paint in homes built before 1978. The program is available to eligible homeowners and renters and can give parents and caregivers peace of mind that their children are safe from lead poisoning at home.

Using the Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) federal grant funding, 100 homes in Council Bluffs will be improved. Improvements will include new windows, doors, and paint. Depending on the total expense of removing lead hazards, additional money may be needed to correct electrical and radon issues and add carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
