Lead Hazard Reduction Program

Lead Hazard Reduction Program - Chipper

Chipper has a new job!

Lead poisoning is a devastating condition for children and can affect nearly every system in the body, and it’s totally preventable. Chipper is chipping in to help!

The City of Council Bluffs has been awarded a grant to remove lead paint in homes built before 1978. The program is available to eligible homeowners and renters, and can give parents and caregivers peace of mind that their children are safe from lead poisoning at home.

Using the Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) federal grant funding, improvements will be made to 100 homes in Council Bluffs. Improvements will include items such as new windows, doors, and paint. Depending on total expense of removing lead hazards, there may be additional money to correct electrical and radon issues and to add carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
