2023 Special Events
The City of Council Bluffs is pleased to announce the 2023 Parks and Recreation Event Series! These events take place in multiple parks and neighborhoods throughout Council Bluffs. The variety of activities aims to engage residents of all ages.

May 19: Cochran Park and First Ave Grand Opening
Join us in celebrating the new and improved Cochran Park (100 S 21st Street)! Event activities include a home run derby on the new baseball field, pickleball lessons on the new courts, 3x3 soccer on the new mini-pitch, live music with Andre Vander Velde, face painting, prizes, and an interactive outdoor screening of THE BAD GUYS complete with a prop kit for every kid! Plus, FREE hotdogs, chips, and sodas while supplies last. Additional food vendors will be on-site. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the movie!
June 2: Summerfest at River's Edge
The third annual SummerFest at River's Edge is going to be bigger and better than ever! We are partnering with Council Bluffs Public Library, PACE, The 712 Initiative, The YMCA, and Fantasy Drone Shows to give you a lineup of summery fun you won't want to miss!
NEW THIS YEAR: DRONE SHOW! At dark, Fantasy Drone Shows will light up the sky with 150 drones for a dazzling display, unlike anything you've seen before!

Admission to SummerFest is free. Food trucks will be on-site, with concessions available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the drone show!
August 4: Pool Party at Katelman
The annual evening pool party takes on a life of its own with themed fun and special pricing! This year's theme is Winter Holidays.
August 5: Youth Fishing Derby
Calling all young anglers! Sign up for the fourth annual Youth Fishing Derby at Big Lake!
September 15: Comedy Night at River's Edge
Due to the nature of stand-up comedy, this event is intended for adults 18 and older. Join us at the River's Edge Pavilion for the fifth annual Comedy Night!
