Household Hazardous Materials

Council Bluffs Recycling Center is home to the Regional Collection Center for Household Hazardous Materials. It is open for drop-offs Monday 9:30am – 3:00pm, Wednesday and Friday 9:30am – 5:30pm and the second Saturday of the month 8:30am – 2:30pm.

Household Hazardous Materials Accepted: 
    • Cleaning Products (Bleach, drain cleaners, floor polish, furniture polish, oven cleaners, etc.)
    • Automotive Products (Antifreeze, brake fluid, fuels, motor oil, oil filters, waxes, etc.) 
    • Household Pesticides (Weed killers, bug killers, fungicides, etc.)
    • Paint (Latex, oil-based, spray, and stains)
    • Rechargeable batteries of all types
    • Fluorescent Light Tubes and Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
    • Cooking Oil (though not hazardous, this can be re-used)
When dropping off household hazardous materials please:
    • Leave materials in their original containers
    • Bring your driver's license
    • Be prepared to complete a short questionnaire regarding the products dropped off
    • Know that unlabeled items will be accepted but an additional questionnaire may be required
Household Hazardous Materials collection is free for residents of Pottawattamie County.  Residential materials from outside of Pottawattamie County are accepted for a fee.  Please call or email us for details.
